Born in Phoenix, Arizona on October 9, 1972, Alisa LaPorte moved to the Mobile, Alabama area with her family at the age of nine. She has called the Gulf Coast home ever since, and it was here that her love of, and talent for, photography began to grow, even as a child. Always fascinated with photos of family and special occasions, her sentimental interest soon became one of aesthetics and creativity. The standard point-and-shoot family camera was her first outlet for this new drive to capture memories in unforgettable images. Recognizing her abilities, Alisa's parents soon provided her with a more technically precise instrument, a 35mm Olympus that she continues to use even today.
Alisa first received technical training in the art of photography while a student at LeFlore Magnet School in Mobile, under the tutelage of the late Richard Scardamalia. His guidance and teaching honed Alisa's already burgeoning skills, solidifying her love of the lens as well as her commitment to one day make a career of photography. She served a brief internship in portrait photography at Gene Nelson’s studio in Mobile after high school before beginning college, and this studio experience engendered in her a profound appreciation of the relationship between photographer and subject, a value that grew only stronger with time. Her academic endeavors ultimately resulted in a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Education degree in Gifted Education, and, since 1998, she has crafted a proud career as an educator in the Mobile County Public School System.
Throughout her training and career in education, Alisa remained heavily involved as a photographer, sharpening her art by shooting portraits of friends, family, and acquaintances at every opportunity. She upgraded to digital photographic and imaging paraphernalia to enhance the quality and versatility of her pictures. She experimented with genres and styles, wielding one of her ever-present cameras at events and occasions on the Gulf Coast and across the United States. She added wedding photography to her portfolio, perfecting her eye for this most special format, first as a favor to certain close persons in her life, then as a progressive preserver of the moment for those who, by word of mouth or with their own eyes, became of aware of her gift for imagery.
Now, armed with robust experience in many realms of photography, Alisa is proud to offer her skills as a professional photographer to you, under the 'Images by Alisa' brand. Alisa LaPorte maintains a very busy slate of weddings as well as student, family, and professional portraits. Alisa also photographs special events for local organizations, including the Mobile Symphony and the Community Foundation of the Arts. Mobile Bay Monthly recently published a striking photo of the 2006 Hot Air Balloon Festival in Baldwin County, just one of several local honors she received. She counts herself fortunate to be chosen to capture the special moments for so many Gulf Coast families and organizations. With goals of perpetually expanding and diversifying her experience and photographic skills, Alisa’s mission is to treat each assignment as a uniquely important opportunity to create lasting images of life’s preeminent moments.
